Crew Positions

	Helmsman Primary responsibility: Safe boat handling, dead-head watch. Secondary responsibilities: Secondary radio communication with shore party if Starboard REO is ashore and Port REO is occupied (only when no risk to the FRV! ). Special knowledge: The boat's handling characteristics under all conditions, weather and associated sea-states, local geography, hazards (fixed and floating) and aids to navigation, main console instruments and switches. Port Radio/Equipment Operator (REO) Primary responsibility: GPS navigation and primary radio communication (with Coast Guard [22,04A], and target vessel). Secondary responsibilities: Maintain time log, generally dictated to Starboard REO. Spotting (port-side aft), secondary radio communication. Special knowledge: Global Positioning System (GPS) operation (theory and controls), charts, VHF radio protocols (including, Van C.G. Radio procedures), knowledge of what channels are designated for what purpose, radio functions (scan, memory, dual, weather, etc.). Starboard Radio/Equipment Operator (REO) Primary responsibility: Radar navigation and secondary radio communication (with radio room [68] and other resources, monitoring 16, and assisting Port REO as required). Secondary responsibilities: Spotting (starboard-side aft), shore-party communications, assisting Rover (towing, overboard retrieval, fire-fighting, first aid, RDF, etc.). Transcribe or maintain time log for Port REO. Special knowledge: Radar operation (theory and controls), charts, VHF radio protocols, radio functions (scan, memory, dual, weather, etc.) knowledge of what channels are designated for what purpose (eg., traffic-11). Rover or Deck Primary responsibility: Man-overboard spotting and retrieval, fire-pump, first aid. Secondary responsibilities: RDF, line-handling, towing, dead-head watch. Special knowledge: Fire pump operation, fire fighting methods, proper spotting, overboard retrieval, first aid, Radio Direction Finder (RDF), line- handling (eg., knots, anchoring, docking lines, securing a vessel along-side for towing, etc.).
