New Recruit Orientation Series

March 10, 2003 Oak Bay News Press Release: The Oak Bay Unit of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary welcomed the first volunteers to complete the new Orientation Training, March 8th, 2003. The training qualifies them to crew the Unit's dedicated Fast Response Vessel and contribute to the Unit�s Search and Rescue duties. In addition to the initial Orientation Training, crew-members will learn boat-handling skills, towing techniques, marine radio communication, navigation and marine first aid. Their responsibility is to apply these skills when they are on-call one week out of every four. Thanks to the dedication of 40 active members the Unit is able to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
